Flamingo Together - Distress Ink Watercolor Technique
Hi everyone! I'm so glad you stopped by today! I have a project featuring the Lawn Fawn Flamingo Together stamp set and coordinating die set. I'll be pairing it with the Big Scripty Words stamp and die set that I used a couple of weeks ago. You can see that post by clicking HERE. I'll be doing a little Distress Ink watercoloring on these fun little birds and show you how you can build color and create texture with Distress Inks.
I used a couple of different colors of Distress Ink for my watercoloring today. The Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick are my two favorite pinks in the Distress Ink line. They blend beautifully together on these flamingos. The tattered rose really gives the natural base to the flamingos and the Worn Lipstick adds the pop of bright color and contrast.
In order to create some texture in my watercolor, I used a layering technique. I started by adding an all over base of color and shadow. I then dried that layer of color completely before adding more color over the top. Adding more wet color over the dry color really builds the color up. I also tapped my color on without blending it out to create texture on the flamingos body. I then set that layer as well. You can continue to build as many layers as you want. And you can blend as little or as much as you want to achieve either a really smooth look or a more textured look.
I debossed a Wonky Stitched Circle die on to my card front to add a landing place for my flamingos. This allows me to create the illusion of an additional layer without adding bulk. It also frames my birds well.
I used the Big Scripty Words stamp set and coordinating die set for my sentiment. I love that these two products can be used on their own or together. I chose to use the coordinating dies to also create a glitter shadow piece for my sentiment. I also cut a piece of fun foam to add behind my sentiment for dimension.
I used more some of the other sentiments and stamps from the Flamingo Together stamp set to add some details to my cards. I stamped the We Flamingo Together sentiment below the die cut "love ya" sentiment. I also used the heart and palm tree tops from the Flamingo Together stamp set to add a pop of color and embellishment.
I tied in the pop of green from the grass with a strip of green card stock along the side. I used a Pretty Pink Posh border die to add some stitching. This adds interest and pulls in the stitching from the circle die I used earlier.
Look MA! NO SEQUINS!
I'll show you exactly how I created this card in the video tutorial below. Be sure to check it out. And don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you can keep an eye out for my new video tutorials.
Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed this project. Until next time, I hope you have a fabulous day!
